Macon-Bibb County Commissioners met via Zoom for the regularly scheduled meetings on Tuesday, August 18. You can watch the meeting here.

Old Business:

 

 

Commissioners approved reallocating $200,000 in voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds for planned improvements to Cotton Avenue Plaza, First Street, and Rosa Parks Square. The projects will require movement of Confederate Monuments to Whittle Park, in front of Rose Hill Cemetery.

The Board authorized the Americus and Sumter County Hospital Authority to issue bonds for its facilities located in Macon-Bibb County. This requires no other commitment from the consolidated government.

First Friday’s Open Container Authorization is extended to every evening from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. through December 31, 2020. The goal is help our local businesses which have seen fewer patrons due to COVID-19.

Commissioners approved an agreement to extend the lease of office space at 456 Oglethorpe Street to the Houston County Board of Health WIC Program for $21,215 a year.

The Board approved a $350 per month lease agreement with A.T. Holt Company for use of a vacant parking lot on Walnut Street Lane.

Commissioners approved an agreement between the County and Hatcher Farms to lease about 184.48 acres at The Middle Georgia Regional Airport for agricultural use.

Commissioners passed a resolution to use $40,000 in voter-approved #SPLOST funds for professional services to help prepare to close the Walker Road Landfill.

The Board approved $137,856 in SPLOST funds to buy four Ford Explorer Pursuit SUVs for the Fire Department.

 Commissioners approved a contract with Stafford Builders to finish the Frankie Lewis SMART Park using $750,000 in voter-approved SPLOST funds. It will include fencing, parking, a water fountain, pavilion, tricycle track, playground, basketball courts, and more.

The Board approved transferring $7,827 within the Superior Court Clerk’s budget to pay for various salary increases. 

 

The Macon-Bibb Board of Commissioners holds its meetings on the first and third Tuesdays each month at 6 p.m., preceded by a 5 p.m. Pre-Commission meeting to go over business and the agenda.
