Saturday Morning Breakfast Club returns to Pleasant Hill

Commissioner Bill Howell, along with U Create Macon, held another Saturday Morning Breakfast Club (SMBC) event on June 26 in the Pleasant Hill Neighborhood.

SMBC is an outreach Commissioner Howell started in early 2019 which turned into a monthly breakfast until COVID-19 hit our community. He began by buying supplies for the first few breakfasts, then the community began donating, feeding hundreds of children since the start of the outreach. Last Saturday was the first breakfast since the start of the pandemic.

“I saw a need and felt it was a wonderful way to help children, fill their bellies, and show them someone cared,” said Commissioner Howell. “It’s about the children. They ask regularly when we are coming back.”

The Club is specifically catered to children in our community. They not only get a hearty breakfast once a month, but organizations such as U Create Macon provide additional resources to them.

“U Create Macon is a makerspace without walls,” said U Create founder Charise Stephens. “We believe we must think out of the box to reach our kids.  From our bike programs to our film festival and more. We are meeting kids where they are.”

Commissioner Howell is hoping to make this a monthly event once again and hopes others will join to make a difference in a child’s life.

“Children can’t help their circumstances. I know that for some, that is their one decent meal on Saturday. I am blessed, this is one way I can have an impact on those children’s lives. My vision is to get churches and others involved and do this at several locations across the county,” he says.

If you would like to volunteer or donate, call Commissioner Howell at (478) 550-2712.
