Getting the job done: #TeamMaconBibb picks up recycling

For Mayor Lester Miller, taking action is more than just approving budgets, passing ordinances, and hiring companies to do work. Taking action means leaders getting out in our streets and physically helping fix a problem. That’s why this past week, along with Commissioners and his administrative team, Mayor Miller went out to pick up your recycling.

On Monday, Mayor Miller, Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark, Budget & Strategic Planning Officer Julie Moore, and Chief Communications Officer Chris Floore joined our Solid Waste Department to empty recycling cans that had been missed on the regular routes the week before. Throughout the week, County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett, the County Clerk’s Office, and Commissioners Raymond Wilder, Al Tillman, Valerie Wynn also hopped on the trucks to work the routes. More Commissioners and staff will be riding the routes the next week to help get the recycling collections back on schedule.

“We’re putting our boots on the ground, showing people we’re not afraid to get our hands dirty, and that recycling matters to our community,” said Mayor Miller. “All of our workers are excited about getting Macon clean again. We’re showing that we don’t have to depend on everybody else to do our job. So, we’re going to step up to the top.”

After several months of delayed trash and recycling pickups, Mayor Miller hired Ryland Environmental to take over trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulk waste collection for about 20% of the county. Ceres Environmental has been hired to start taking over yard and bulk waste collection for the other 80%, with another company expected to begin helping with that in the next week or two. As those changes are made, and routes potentially altered, Macon-Bibb will notify people.

If your recycling has not been picked up, be sure to leave it out until our team gets to it. To report a missed trash or recycling pickup, call Waste Management at 405-5000. You can also report them – and miss yard waste pick up – through SeeClickFix at www.maconbibb.us/seeclickfix or the mobile app.
