Macon-Bibb County and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) will hold a press conference on Wednesday, April 21, at 2:30 p.m. in Commission Chambers at Government Center (700 Poplar Street). Together, they and several neighborhood representatives will announce the results from the first Clean Streets Matter and the date of the next event. It will be broadcast live on Macon-Bibb County’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/maconbibbcounty.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and to help keep people safe and healthy, the press conference will be limited to invited guests, the media, and support staff.
On April 10 and 11, 2021, more than 1,500 people in 80 different groups came together to clean neighborhood throughout Macon-Bibb County. Our Public Works, Solid Waste, and Parks and Beautification Departments mobilized their crews and picked up what groups collected. We are excited to share the results of how much trash was picked up that day.
As Mayor Lester Miller has said before, this initiative is not over. Join us Wednesday, as we announce our upcoming plans for the Clean Streets Matter initiative.
“Seeing our community come together in an effort to keep Macon-Bibb County clean makes me so proud,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “Together, we are making a difference. However, there is still work to be done and I look forward to what’s yet to come.”
“Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful was truly overwhelmed by the response from our community for the county-wide cleanup,” says Caroline Childs, KMBB Executive Director. “The Clean Streets Matter initiative has made a true impact in our community and we are thrilled to be able to help residents make a difference.”
Our Clean Streets Matter initiative began on Friday, January 15. In the first six weeks of that effort:
  • KMBB has supported or helped plan for the future more than 20 neighborhood cleanups;
  • crews from Macon-Bibb County cleaned more than 2 million pounds of debris from more than 1 illegal dump sites;
  • The Macon Water Authority has swept more than 360,000 pounds of dirt, leaves, pine straw, and litter from more than 30 miles of road; and
  • More than 680,000 pounds of yard waste has been collected.
