2020 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission Events and Observances

January 3, 2020

Each year, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission kicks off its year of remembrances and events with a wreath-laying ceremony at Rosa Parks Square. In December, the Commission moved that ceremony inside Government Center due to rain, but the mission remains the same: better our community through love and action while exercising the key vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Commission aims to keep his dream alive through outreach, education, community support, and fun. You can watch that ceremony here.
This year’s County-wide march will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020. The march will begin at four locations, and coverage by noon at Macon-Bibb Government Center (700 Poplar Street).
The four starting locations for the march are:
  • Northside: Booker T. Washington Center (Monroe Street)
  • Eastside: Rosa Jackson Recreation Center (1211 Maynard Street)
  • Westside: Frank Johnson Recreation Center (2227 Mercer University Drive)
  • Southside: Memorial Gym (763 Long Street)
