Our student leader cohort got a behind the scenes look at the Macon-Bibb Fire Department! The GCAPS (Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students) group visited fire headquarters and historic station #2 as part of their November class. The group, which comprises students from all over the County, learns about a different facet of our Government each month. 

For their visit to the fire stations, the students got to extinguish a digital fire, try on a hazmat suit, and learn about all the ways our Class 1 Fire Department works to keep families safe. It was also a great opportunity for many of them to learn about career opportunities and what it takes to be a firefighter. 

“We want these children to learn about all the ways they can succeed in their community,” says GCAPS Coordinator Henry Ficklin. “We already know they are smart, which is why they’re in this program, but we want them to have the opportunity to meet new people and be exposed to new career ideas.”
