As we approach the first anniversary of the Brookdale Resource Center opening, we want to highlight an important member of our staff that has played a major role with the Center since the beginning. This week, our Staff Spotlight is shining on Brookdale Resource Center Executive Director Alison Bender.
Alison began working as the volunteer coordinator towards the end of January 2021 after being laid off from working in retail. Little did she know getting laid off would be a blessing in disguise, she says.
“Pretty much from day one I realized this was something I wanted to do,” said Alison. “Seeing people flourish, use their time here to get back on their feet, and become the productive person they were before has been awesome. It’s so rewarding.”
Alison was immediately committed to helping everyone who came through the doors of Brookdale. She says she has learned so much from all of the volunteers and staff who contribute to making the Center successful.
“To see how much the community comes together when something positive happens is just incredible,” said Alison. “The donations, the volunteers that come out to help, it’s been a huge highlight for me in this role.”
She was promoted to Interim Director before officially assuming the Executive Director role, overseeing all day-to-day operations of the Center.
“Alison has really jumped in feet first with Brookdale and done the most amazing work for people. It is a hard job and she does it with grace and compassion,” said Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Spencer Hawkins. “We are lucky to have her as our Executive Director.”
Thank you for all you do, Alison! We are so thankful to have you on #TeamMaconBibb.
