The Brookdale Resource Center now has 250 new beds for their residents thanks to partnerships within our community.

“They have been on cots since we first opened in January, and those are really only meant for a short stay,” said Center Director Alison Bender. “So having the beds will be tremendous for us to get as many people here as needed.”

The new beds were delivered Thursday, December 2 and were assembled by our Fire Department, staff, volunteers, and residents. 150 beds, mattresses, and pillows were paid for through money from the federal Emergency Solutions Grant. The Salvation Army donated 100 more beds, bringing the total to 250.

“When we started this, the Mayor and our team of partners walked through this abandoned school, and we had no idea that 12 months later we would be where we are right now,” said Emergency Management Agency Director Spencer Hawkins.
