Macon-Bibb celebrates, remembers Michael MacCarthy

To remember the legacy left behind by Michael MacCarthy, Mayor Lester Miller proclaimed November 16 as Michael McCarthy Day in Macon-Bibb County. The proclamation was read by Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark at the Commission Meeting on Tuesday, November 16. 

MacCarthy was an associate professor at Mercer University’s School of Engineering in the Department of Environmental and Civil Engineering. His secured the funding and managing the installation of solar powered energy systems for five Habitat for Humanity homes.   

“Michael MacCarthy exceeded the assigned responsibilities of his position and, with great persistence and passion, launched the Engineering for Development program at Mercer University, teaching his students about green-engineering and other low-cost technologies that improve the lives of people in a planet-friendly way,” says the proclamation.
