Emergency Management Agency Director Spencer Hawkins recently graduated from FEMA’s National Emergency Management Executive Academy at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
The program supports the advancement of the emergency management profession at strategic policy and executive leadership levels. Hawkins completed four resident courses in the Executive Academy.
“Even after 20 years in a profession there are still ways you can improve, and I look to my peers throughout the public safety community for continuing education,” said Hawkins. “Graduating from this Academy will allow me to be a better emergency manager for Macon-Bibb County, and I appreciate everyone who supported me through this journey.”
The courses in the Academy instill leaders with a deeper understanding of contemporary and emerging emergency management issues, debates, and public policy. They also provide insights, theories, tools, and resources that enable leaders to protect against, prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all types of disasters.
