This week, we are spotlighting our hardworking Parks and Beautification Department. This team works every day to keep our County looking beautiful, and they were recently recognized by NewTown Macon during its Tour of Progress for the work done on the Poplar Street Median renovation. Our department worked closely with the Business Improvement District (BID) and the Peyton Anderson Foundation to greatly improve the park and make it more usable.

Parks and Beautification paid for and installed new trees and shrubbery. They also helped project manage the work by assisting with road closures, hauling in dirt, and the demolished concrete.

“We are honored to receive this award from Newtown. However, we don’t want to take all the credit. This was truly a group effort to create such a great space and we hope the citizens of Macon-Bibb County enjoy it,” said Parks and Beautification Director Michael Glisson. “Big thanks to Macon Bibb County Facilities Management for the help in locating underground utilities and working with contractors on street lighting and water issues in the area.”
