The next major step has been taken to provide our firefighters with a new state-of-the-art Fire Safety Training Facility. The Commission approved $2.8 million from the 2018 voter-approved Special Local Options Sales Tax (SPLOST) to fund its construction.
“This new training facility and tower will allow our fire instructors to train with more versatility, realism to fire conditions, incorporate new technology, and improve firefighter safety measures during ,” said Interim Chief Shane Edwards. “I would like to say thank you to Mayor Miller and the Commissioners for supporting and approving this much-needed upgrade.”
The Fire Department is working with a contractor to design the new facility. Interim Chief Edwards and other firefighters are currently touring different facilities around the country to get ideas.
The new facility will replace the previous facility on Tinker Drive. Commissioners toured the current facility in February to see its deteriorating conditions before touring a brand new facility in Warner Robins that opened in 2020.
