October is Period Poverty Awareness Month in Macon-Bibb

The poverty rate in Macon-Bibb County is around 26.7%, which is more than double the national average. People in poverty often miss school, work, or important moments in life due to menstruation and related issues.

Macon Periods Easier, an organization of nine women and dozens of volunteers, is working to eliminate period poverty in our community through donations, educational events, activism, and normalizing the conversation about menstruation.

Mayor Miller presented the organization with a proclamation this week to help bring awareness to period poverty. You can read the full proclamation here.
