Staff Spotlight: Fire Station #7

October 14, 2021

Each week we highlight one member of our team#TeamMaconBibb who has gone above and beyond for their department and our community. This week, we are highlighting more than one person. Instead, join us in celebrating We’re highlighting the team at Macon-Bibb County Fire Department’s Battalion 23 at Station #7.

The station typically cooks breakfast, lunch, and dinner for themselves and their crew. However, on Tuesday, October 5 they invited a crew from the Public Works Department to join them as a thank you for their support over the years during emergencies and other disasters.

“These guys help us a lot, more than we most people realize,” said Station #7’s Lt. Garin Flanders. “It was a way for us to say, ‘thank you for having our backs’.”

Public Works currently parks some tractors in an open area at Station #7, and sometimes that comes in handy with the Fire Department. There have been many other instances where the Station needs extra help, whether it’s clearing mud after a car hit a fire hydrant, putting out cones, or moving debris out of the roads for emergency vehicles. However they can, the Public Works crew is always there to lend a hand.

They always come without question and are happy to assist,” said Lt. Flanders.

The Station made fajitas for four Public Works workers. Lt. Flanders said they were so grateful, but to the Station it was a small gesture to say thank you. He adds this will not be the last time they share a meal together and . He is also hopes an act like this will encourage other departments and our entire community to come together.

If you know of anyone who deserves the Staff Spotlight, feel free to nominate them by emailing eruiz@maconbibb.us.
