On May 16, 2021, Mayor Lester Miller presented staff from Atrium Health Navicent with a proclamation declaring May to be Stroke Awareness and Prevention Month.
Strokes are the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, affecting about 800,000 people a year. Georgia’s age-standardized stroke death rate in 2019 was 13.3% higher than the national average, giving it the 8th highest stroke death rate in the United States.
This month is aimed to teach you and your loved ones about the warning signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with stroke so we might begin to reduce the devastating effects stroke imposes on our state.
