On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, we completed our 30 in 30 Blight Fight campaign and began a new project aimed to improve the entrance to Historic Linwood Cemetery. numbers 29, 30, and 31 of the campaign.

While the demolitions Wednesday morning helped us achieve our 30 in 30 goal, they were also torn down as part of a major improvement project to the entrance of the Historic Linwood Cemetery. The project to clean up and improve the entrance is a partnership between the County, the Macon Cemetery Preservation Corporation, and the Macon Water Authority and will help attract people to the historic cemetery, make it a safer area, and connect Pleasant Hill to other neighborhoods, the Ocmulgee River, Amerson River Park, the Ocmulgee National Mounds Historical Park, Downtown, and more.

“I’m confident that is going to be a destination place for years to come,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “This is only the first step in a major project that we have going on in Macon-Bibb County.”

“The blight removal, construction of the Pursley Streetscape, and connection to the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail will open up more tourism, funding, and partnerships for Historic Linwood Cemetery,” says Macon Cemetery Preservation Corporation President Yolanda Latimore.
