Macon – Derrick Dwayne Lamb, 25, was found guilty of armed robbery and aggravated assault Wednesday in connection to a June 30, 2016, heist at GameStop on Presidential Parkway.
Lamb, of Macon, waived his right to a jury trial, opting instead for Bibb County Superior Court Judge Howard Simms to determine his guilt or innocence.
Evidence presented during Wednesday’s bench trial showed Lamb entered the store at about 10:20 a.m. and appeared to be browsing merchandise as a customer before he pulled out a bottle of lighter fluid and squirted it on a clerk. Lamb then demanded money and at least twice threatened to set the clerk on fire if he didn’t comply with his demands.
The clerk gave Lamb money and Lamb left. Lamb, who wasn’t wearing a mask during the robbery, was later identified in a photo line-up as the man who’d robbed the store.
Lamb will be sentenced after the completion of a pre-sentencing investigation conducted by a probation officer. He could face a maximum life sentence.
Speaking after the trial, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said, “We’re pleased Mr. Lamb will be held accountable not just for the robbery, but for the terror he instilled in his victim. We look forward to his sentencing.”
