The 2017 property tax bills are being mailed Friday, September 15, and payment is due in two installments.  The first installment is due October 16, 2017 and second by November 15, 2017.  To avoid additional costs, please pay by the due dates. Taxpayers are encouraged to read the entire tax bill (front and back) because it includes information about the process, as well as available exemptions.

Taxpayers can pay:

  • online at our new and improved website;
  • by mail with a check or money order to 188 Third Street, Macon, GA, 31201;
  • by phone at 1-855-651-4214; or
  • in person at 188 Third Street in Downtown Macon.

About the Tax Commissioner’s Office

The Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s Office handles motor vehicle registrations and related transactions. They also bill and collect for property taxes, mobile homes taxes, timber taxes, heavy duty equipment taxes, sanitation fees, street light fees, road paving assessments, alcohol excise taxes, bank gross receipts taxes, and hotel-motel occupancy taxes.

Since the consolidation of Macon-Bibb County in January 2014, the Tax Commissioner’s Office has worked diligently to become more customer friendly and make it easier to search information and pay for services.

The Office moved into its new building at 188 Third Street in December 2014, consolidating the separate offices previously located at the Bibb County Courthouse and the Farmer’s Market on Eisenhower Parkway. To make it easier for people to make payments, credit and debit cards are now accepted over the counter, which is a significant improvement and one expressed as being needed by people visiting the former locations. The new facility also features a maximum of 16 Customer Service Representatives to help people, and drive-thru service is available. A new electronic customer service queuing system was installed that directs people to the Customer Service Representative that can best assist them.

In May 2016, a self-service kiosk was installed at the Tom Hill, Sr. Boulevard Kroger, which allows Georgia residents to renew their vehicle tags. All they need to do is scan their driver’s license or enter their registration information and pay their fees at the kiosk, and they will be able to print their registration card and decal. The kiosks will accept credit or debit cards, and instructions and voice prompts are available in both English and Spanish.
