To help keep the public updated on the progress of projects, Macon-Bibb County releases monthly financial statements for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds. All statements are posted to a website dedicated to announcements, updates, and information about how the County is using the funds on the projects approved by voters. Just this week, Macon-Bibb celebrated the opening of the new new Filmore Thomas Park, and the upgrades at Memorial Park, Rosa Jackson, and Frank Johnson Community Centers are nearing completion. In recent months, Macon-Bibb celebrated the start of construction for the new South Bibb Recreation Center and the new fire station in East-Macon Bibb County, installation of the new E-911 system that improves public safety, completion of improvements at East Macon Park, plans approved for Mattie Hubbard Jones and Henry Burns Parks, and more road improvements beginning.
And the work that has been made possible because of the SPLOST will continue for the next few years. On November 8, the voters of Macon-Bibb approved the continuation of the SPLOST, which includes the next phases of recreation projects, federally-mandated closure of the landfill, courthouse renovations, runway extension at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport, stormwater repair and upgrades, public safety projects, and more. The $280 million plan was developed after the Commission hosted a series of community meetings to hear from people about what they wanted done.
