Macon-Bibb County opened its newest fire station, #110, at 2930 Heath Road on Friday, November 21, with a plaque unveiling and ribbon cutting. Guests and speakers at the event included members of the Macon-Bibb County Commission, former elected officials, Fire Department Senior Administration, officers to be stationed there, and more. The new station began operating at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 23.

“We’re very excited to be opening this new fire station and improve the level of protection in the western part of Bibb County,” says Fire Chief Marvin Riggins. “We want to be a part of this community and make a connection with the people here.”

Originally slated to be built with a budget of $3,966,236 from the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), it came in under budget at less than $2.3 million. It features approximately 8,000 square feet of space, including administrative offices, a kitchen, sleeping quarters, and a community room. Fire Station 109 on New Forsyth Road opened on July 12, 2013, and was funded with $2,654,847 from the SPLOST.
