The Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission is asking the public for its feedback into the Macon Area Transportation Study’s (MATS) update of the 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan (LTRP) and its Comprehensive Plan.

“This is a great opportunity to help shape the future of transit and transportation in our region, and to create a blueprint for the future of our community,” says Greg Brown, Macon-Bibb Planning & Zoning Senior Planner. “You can help determine the character, scale, and quality of development and redevelopment of our area, shape the future of our transportation systems, and propose new projects you think are important.”

Everyone is encouraged to share ideas and provide comments at one or more of the upcoming open houses, community outreach events, or MATS committee meetings.

About the Long Range Transportation Plan
The Long Range Transportation Plan (LTRP) guides future transportation improvements in Macon-Bibb County and a portion of Jones and Monroe Counties. The Plan will approximately one billion dollars of transportation projects the next 25 years, such as new roadways, pedestrian and bike facilities, and transit opportunities, as well as upgrades to existing infrastructure.  Public input will be used to help set the priorities for funding those projects.

The LRTP is updated every four years, and its impact can be seen in road projects currently under construction (Sardis Church Road extension and Forest Hill Road widening) and planned projects (I-75/I-16 interchange expansion, Jeffersonville Road widening, new roundabouts, and new bridges over rail lines and waterways).

About the Comprehensive Plan
The Comprehensive Plan is a state-mandated plan required by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and is a 20-Year plan. In addition to transportation, this plan outlines the vision of a community in the areas of community development, land use, recreation, and housing. It is updated every 10 years and also relies heavily on public input to set priorities.
