Phase 2 of the $2.5 million Memorial Park Center upgrades is happening now, and a kick-off on February 11 marked the start of this project. MaconBibbTV covered the groundbreaking and learned more about this neighborhood recreation center project. Click here to watch.

In addition to bathrooms and gym improvements, visitors will see a lot more open space with windows to let in natural light, a computer lab, workout room, new concession stand at the baseball field, pool renovations, and more.

District 8 Commissioner Virgil Watkins says this particular center is in need of the upgrades for several reasons, one being how popular it is with Macon-Bibb’s young people.

“This is a hub for us; a lot of our kids come here. From daily after-school programs to just general recreation,” says Watkins.
