Our very own Sherita Sims-Jones has been recognized this year for her leadership with the County, as well as her leadership outside of her work.

Sims-Jones is the Budget and Grants Manager for the Strategic Planning Department. Before consolidation, she was the Grants Accountant for the City of Macon, working for a total of 9 years with this government. Sims-Jones was recently selected as one of three panelists for the Knight Budget Resiliency Webinar to discuss intergovernmental workings regarding budget and grants, dealing with the pandemic, and the county’s plans with the American Rescue Plan (ARP) money.

“It really made me feel like I was someone special but also helped me realize just how much our government and partners have done and continue to do to improve our community in so many ways,” said Sims-Jones. “People usually work through each day just doing things to make ends meet and not looking at the big picture. This webinar really helped me see the big picture perspective of our agency and community and all I could think was, ‘Wait, I’m the one discussing and advocating this, I actually represent our government and community as a whole right now’.”

In her spare time, Sims-Jones serves on the American Red Cross of Central Midwest Georgia Board. In June, she was selected as the recipient of the Board Leadership Award due to her commitment to their mission.

“The American Red Cross is very important to me because it does so many good things and good deeds for everyone,” said Sims-Jones. “Your class, race, or even status doesn’t matter, it’s all about helping people as a whole survive, especially when they feel or are even at their worst.”
