FY21 Budget Process

The Macon-Bibb County proposed budget for the 2021 Fiscal Year was presented at a Special Called Meeting of the Commission on Tuesday, May 19, at 4:30 p.m. before going through a review and amendment process by the Operations & Finance Committee. The budget was approved by the full Commission on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, and it can be viewed by clicking here.

These meetings were – as all recent Commission Meetings have been – due to precautions taken to slow the spread of COVID-19. Links to the video of the meetings are below.

New millage rate proposed to remain the same

For Fiscal Year 2021 (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021), the Macon-Bibb County Commission has tentatively set a millage rate the same as the year before, which is 20.331 mills.

“We have made significant investment in our community, and that is reflected in our property values. Our homes are worth more now than they were five years ago, and that is because we are more and more being recognized as a great place to live,” says Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert. “The investment has been made by each of us, and it’s time to take care of the hardworking and dedicated employees that serve our community on a daily basis.”

Due to the increase in property values, this would, legally, equal a property tax increase of 0.344 mills, or 1.72 percent. A home with fair market value of $125,000 would see an annual increase of about $14.81. Public hearings will be held via Zoom on August 4 at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and August 11 at 1:00 p.m. To submit a comment, click here or email commission@maconbibb.us.

By not accepting the rollback of the millage rate, Macon-Bibb County will receive approximately an additional $2.6 million, which will provide the money to help do away with potential furloughs, fund the pay scale, and hire needed employees.
