During the Commission meeting Tuesday night, Commissioners Bill Howell and Elaine Lucas recognized a group of students in the Next Level program. Earlier that day, they took a tour of City Hall to learn about how the government works. You can watch the recognition here.

Next Level is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering at-risk youth and families to exercise sound judgment regarding their education, health, and social and emotional well-being through youth services (afterschool and summer programming) and mental health programs.

“These students are the future leaders of Macon-Bibb County,” said Commissioner Howell. “I appreciate the fact that Mt. Zion Baptist Church took it upon themselves to create this program and mentorship.”

“I want to congratulate all of you and thank you so much,” said Commissioner Lucas. “At some point we are going to need some replacements up here on the Commission and we are counting on you.”

Next Level is one of the 25 organizations who received funding through Macon Violence Prevention (MVP) grants.
