Crystal Jones
A native of Macon-Bibb County, Georgia, attended Middle Georgia State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Public Service degree cum laude. While in attendance, she was named President’s Scholar and eared the Division of Social Science Academic Excellence Award. She also received the Student Life Distinguished Student Leadership Award two consecutive years and served as Student Government Association President for two successive years.
Judge Jones received her Juris Doctor from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law. While in law school, she was a member of Phi Alpha Delta, the Black Law Students Association and the Association of Women Law Students. In addition, she obtained her mediation certification and became a registered neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.
Upon graduation from law school, she worked in private practice at the law firm of Young, Thagard, Hoffman, Smith, Lawrence & Shenton in Valdosta, Georgia. Her areas of practice included Georgia Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Georgia appellate work, insurance defense, personal injury, court appointed criminal defense, contracts, and workers compensation defense.
Upon returning to the central Georgia area, Judge Jones initially worked as an Assistant County Attorney with the Macon-Bibb County Attorney’s Office. She was promoted to Senior Assistant County Attorney in March 2014. As Senior Assistant County Attorney, she prepared ordinances, resolutions and contracts; handled litigation matters; addressed employment matters such as grievance hearings, pension board meetings, EEOC claims and Human Resource issues; and provided legal counsel to approximately sixteen departments, the Mayor and County Commission, as well as the Courts, elected officials and constitutionally elected officers. She also served as Interim County Attorney during a brief transitional period in which the County Attorney served as Interim County Manager.
Judge Jones currently serves on the Middle Georgia State University Alumni Board and enjoys participating in various charitable activities and organizations.
