          The Deputy Fire Chief works out of the Prevention Building in Fire Administration. This position is responsible for the oversight of all administrative divisions within the organization. The divisions under their command are Training, Prevention, Vehicle/Fleet Maintenance, Arson, E-911 Liaison, Special Operations, and Special Projects.

          The Deputy Chief is also responsible for ensuring that the fire department keeps its accredited status with Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council, Federal Aviation Administration certification at the airport fire station, and with medical training and licensures of certified personnel through the Georgia Department of Public Health. This is in addition to ensuring the department keeps its accredited status with maintaining the Insurance Service Office (ISO) Class 1 rating for Macon Bibb County.

          Chief Smith is a 20-year veteran of the Macon Bibb County Fire Department. He earned his Bachelors in Fire and Emergency Services Administration and a Master’s in Public Administration. His certifications and professional affiliations include but are not limited to: Georgia Fire Chief Certification, Fire Officer Level IV, Instructor II, Fire Inspector I, Plans Examiner I, Fire and Life Safety Educator I, EMT-Intermediate, EMS Instructor, Airport Firefighter and Firefighter 2. This is in addition to being a member of the Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force (since 2004), the departments Honor Guard Commander and a recent alumnus of the Leadership Macon Program (2023).
