Second Convenience Center now open

You now have another place to take your trash and other items you’ve been wanting to get rid of! The County’s second Convenience Center is now open at 4214 Fulton Mill Road, down the road past Animal Welfare.

On Thursday, December 1, Mayor Lester Miller, Commissioners, the Solid Waste Department, and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the new location. You can watch the full ceremony here.

“This is another step in keeping our community clean and giving everyone the opportunity to dispose of trash properly,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “Providing an additional center to dispose of debris will not only provide convenience for people but will hopefully cut down on illegal dumping.”

The Center is open Thursday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Operating hours are subject to change, depending on weather, holidays, and other extenuating circumstances.

“We can’t do this alone. One group picking up trash on the side of the road, can’t do this alone. It takes everyone doing their part,” said KMBB Executive Director Asha Ellen. “Help your neighbors. We don’t need to see illegal dumping in our community anymore. There are no excuses.”

People can bring, free of charge: yard debris, bagged household garbage, building material, metal, tires (limit of 4 per person), furniture, and recycling. To use the Center, a person must be a Macon-Bibb County resident and bring a valid driver’s license of I.D.

This is the second of five Convenience Centers being built around the County. The first opened in March 2022 at 1010 11th Street, near the old landfill. That Center is open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
