Saturday, June 18 was a busy day for people in our community working to make a difference. United Way of Central Georgia held its Day of Action at the Brookdale Resource Center. People volunteered to clean up the Center, as well the surrounding neighborhoods with help from Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful.

More than 70 people helped around the Center, cleaning inside and outside of the building, sorting through donations, sorting and folding laundry, packing hygiene bags, as well as winter bags.

“We are so grateful for everyone who came out to support the center,” said Brookdale Resource Center Director Alison Bender. “The biggest thing that came out of that day was we had people come out who have never been to the Center before; they were not aware of what we do.”

That same day, KMBB also assisted in the Divine 9 Cleanup with NPHC: Macon-Middle Georgia Council, which drew more than 80 people from different organizations to Greenwood Bottom. Together, they picked up hundreds of pounds of trash and debris.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and give back to different neighborhoods,” said KMBB Executive Director Asha Ellen. “We are so proud of those stepping up to make a significant difference in our community.”

KMBB provided trash bags, litter pickers, gloves, and vests for both cleanups. If you are interested in hosting a cleanup in a different neighborhood, contact Ellen at asha.ellen@kmbbc.org.
