The Board of Elections is losing a vital person in its day-to-day operations. Charlene Maynard has left her position as Administrative Assistant to take on another challenge – retirement.

Her team celebrated her years of hard work and positive attitude at Fish-N-Pig the Tuesday before her last day on Friday, July 29, 2022.

“Charlene was an expert at handling all the small – to anyone outside the office, invisible – details that kept our office running so well,” said Interim Elections Supervisor Thomas Gillon. “She understood how things were done and seemed to be on a first name basis with the vast majority of county employees. We wish her well and will miss her immensely.”

Maynard has been with the Board of Elections since 2008 when she started part time as a Deputy Registrar. In 2013, she transitioned into full time with a new position as the Administrative Assistant, where she was the ‘go-to person’ for all matters. She wore many hats in that role including working on budgets, database, payroll, getting people registered, billing, and media blasts. Maynard was the key person in getting elections results to local media to distribute to the public.

“I learned a lot. Nobody knows what goes into an election,” said Maynard. “There is a misconception that people think it’s just registering people to vote. There is a lot that goes into it.”

Maynard had a variety of different jobs prior to working at the Board of Elections that prepared her for that role. After graduating from Dudley Hughes High School, she worked in the Drug Court department of the Bibb County Superior Court, the Medical Center, Coliseum Hospital, post office, labor department, Bibb Theatre, and the Bibb County Human Resources Department.

While she is technically retiring, Maynard says she likely won’t be resting much. She plans to stay busy by continuing to volunteer in her community and, of course, spending as much time with her two children and three grandchildren.

We wish you the best in your retirement and are so proud to have had you on #TeamMaconBibb! Thank you, Charlene!
