“It’s a great night in Macon!”

“It’s a great night in Macon,” Mayor Lester Miller announced into a microphone from the stage at the Atrium Health Amphitheater. “Are you ready to rock!?”

His words were met with cheers as nearly 2,000 people looked around on a beautiful March evening at a facility they had helped build. One they all had a hand in making possible, from creating the designs to clearing the area to pouring cement to driving in steel beams to signing contracts to cutting checks to running wires to installing audio visual equipment…and so much more. So much more that most people that attend a show will never see or know about.

“This was a chance for us to look back on everything people did the past two years to get us ready to open on March 24 and recognize what a monumental task that was,” says General Manager David Aiello. “What a beautiful evening for people to get together and celebrate work that will help this area become a center of entertainment, attracting huge acts.”

Since most people would never know the work that occurred, the Amphitheater held a Friends & Family Night, a free show to thank the men and women who took it from a dream to a reality. Over the course of two hours, they got to enjoy live music from Baxter James, African Americana, and Charles Davis with the Macon Music Revue band …but most importantly each other and a sense of accomplishment.

“The night was simply amazing, with everyone smiling and glowing about the final product. People talked about the lights and the sound and the food…and that there really isn’t a bad seat in the house,” says Mayor Miller. “We can’t wait to see people’s faces as they walk in here March 24 for its very first show, Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top: The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour.”
