To make sure everyone had a chance to ask questions about the changes to the Scrap Tire Ordinance, Mayor Lester Miller and Assistant County Attorney Sara Davis held information sessions on September 20 and 23.

The updated Ordinance was passed by the Commission in June 2021. Since then, the County gave people a grace period to learn about it before the Code Enforcement Department starts enforcing it. This week, people were given the opportunity to attend the sessions to express concerns and ask questions. We also livestreamed the sessions. You can watch them here and here.

“We want to be as transparent and informative as possible for all business owners and individuals this may affect,” said Mayor Miller. “We want to let you know upfront that we are going to start enforcement, which may include citations or even jail time.”

The Ordinance says people cannot have more than ten scrap tires at a time unless they fall under an exception. You can read those exceptions here. You are also not allowed to dump any scrap tires unless the property has been designated by Macon-Bibb and Environmental Protection Division (EPD), tires are placed in a designated receptacle, or the property owner has approval by EPD or county.

If tires get dumped on your property, you must report it to Code Enforcement within five business days.
