On September 18, 2021 Mayor Lester Miller proclaimed September as Lupus Awareness Month ahead of the second Lupus Walk in Macon-Bibb.

The Walk to End Lupus Walk Now was held Saturday, September 18 to raise money and awareness for the autoimmune disease. Lupus can cause inflammation and tissue damage to any organ in the body, especially the skin, joints, blood, and kidneys.

Timishea “CoaCoa” Price ,a victim of Lupus and advocate for finding a cure, started the walk in Macon-Bibb to encourage more Lupus warriors to join.

“I started the walk in Macon because I was a resident for 14 years and all of my doctors are there, but there are currently no doctors in the area that specialize in Lupus,” said Price. “So I started the Walk to raise awareness of this cause because there are so many people just like me in Macon who don’t have the access to doctors in the community.”

Although the Walk in Macon-Bibb already happened, Price is preparing for the National Lupus Foundation of America’s Walk to End Lupus Now. So far, the Macon-Bibb chapter has raised more than $6,000.
