We Will Never Forget

The day before we marked the 20th anniversary of the horrific attacks on our country, our law enforcement agencies and community gathered at Public Safety Memorial Park to remember and honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation, along with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, led the remembrance ceremony in Downtown.

“It’s important for our community to have this ceremony every year to remember our neighbors who lost their lives in these attacks,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We want their families to know we will always remember them.”

There was a Presentation of Colors by the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department’s Honor Guard. Officers from both departments placed roses on the Memorial as a symbol that Macon-Bibb will never forget the sacrifices made by these individuals in service to the community. They also placed wreath at the Memorial to remember those that lost their life on 9/11 and to honor all men and women in public safety.

“Not only did about 3,000 people lose their lives but more than 6,000 people were injured so we need to also remember them,” said Warren Selby with the Law Enforcement Foundation. “It was a major attack on our country’s soil, so we’re here every year to say ‘We remember you. We will never forget.

To end the Ceremony, bag piper Don Bray played “Amazing Grace” and the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Aviation Division flew helicopters over the park.
