During the month of October, Heard Elementary School wanted to do something special to help those in need, so they came up with Socktober.
Every day, students from all grades would bring new socks of different colors and sizes and drop them into a collection box. Throughout the month, students collected more than 100 pairs of socks to take to the Brookdale Warming Center.
“By bringing socks, we know we helped someone and that makes us feel good,” said Heard Elementary 5th Grader David Torres.
“I’m so proud of the students and the staff at Heard Elementary,” said District 7 Commissioner Bill Howell. “It’s a great thing to see students learn about donating and be a part of the community by being helpful.”
“We want to thank Heard Elementary for thinking of us and making this donation,” said Brookdale Warming Center Interim Director Alison Bender. “This is perfect timing as it starts to get cold again.”
