With the increase in yard debris and leaves put on curbs that is expected every year at this time, the Macon-Bibb County Solid Waste Department wants to help make sure it is all collected. Below are some tips to help make your and their job easier.
“Our crews want to get the debris and leaves picked up as quickly as possible, but they can be slowed down because of the amount that gets placed on the curb at this time of year,” says Solid Waste Director Kevin Barkley. “A few simple steps can really help our crews on their routes.”
1. Put all leaves, grass clippings, and pine straw in a bag or container. No loose material will be collected.
2. Place bags, containers, and limbs neatly at the curb in front of your residence.
3. Limbs and bulky items need to be separated from bagged or containerized leaves, grass clippings and pine straw.
4. Large limbs must be cut limbs into 4 foot lengths and placed in a separate pile in order to be collected.
5. If the pile of limbs is larger than a pickup truck load, a special request needs to be made for pickup. Call (478) 808-0499 or use SeeClickFix to request that pickup.
6. No yard waste (limbs, pine straw, stumps, vines, leaves, or grass clippings) is accepted at Macon-Bibb’s Walker Road Landfill. All should be placed on the curb in front of your home for collection.
7. Garbage carts need to have the handles face the house, and they should not be put next to mail boxes, wires, trees, poles, cars, or fire hydrants.
8. Recycling carts are only for paper items, plastic bottles, plastic jugs aluminum cans, and metal cans. No glass is accepted.
