Hundreds attend kickoff of “Live Well in Maconga” wellness initiative

On Wednesday, June 8, the Macon-Bibb County Human Resources Department held its first “Live Well in Maconga” Wellness Fair for its employees, and more than 450 employees attended were able to learn about the new wellness program and ways in which their entire families can live healthier lives.

Throughout the day, they visited 25 different health and wellness vendors; get free biometric screenings (blood pressure, height, weight, and body mass); participate in seminars on surviving the heat, how to prevent chronic disease, the Zika Virus, budgeting, and more; sample healthy food and learn how to cook them; and see fitness demonstrations. To see pictures from the event, click here.

Tiawan Bell with the Fire Department won the grand prize giveaway of a weekend getaway at Chateau Elan Winery and Resourt, and the Fire Department won a $250 gift card for having 81 people attend. Honorable mentions for attendance included the Sheriff’s Office (64), Public Works (55), Solid Waste (42), Parks & Beautification (26), Facilities Management (23), and Business Development Services (22). The Internal Audit Department won a $250 gift card for the Highest Employee Attendance Based on Percentage.

“Macon-Bibb County’s goal is to make sure that its employees are well aware of all aspects of wellness,” says Human Resources Director Ben Hubbard. “This was the first in a series of events we are hosting to make sure all of our employees know and understand all aspects of wellness, and to help them make better choices about leading healthier lifestyles.”
