Macon – Beginning Friday, the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office staff will have the aid of the nationally recognized Wargo French law firm in prosecuting civil forfeiture and racketeering cases.
A judge swore in attorneys Arthur D. Brannan and 2018 gubernatorial candidate Stacey G. Evans Friday morning as Special Assistant District Attorneys. Wargo French has a proven track record in handling complex litigation, including civil forfeiture and racketeering.
Brannan and Evans join Michael Lambros, a statewide expert in gambling prosecution sworn in as a Special Assistant District Attorney for the office in 2014. In the past five years, the district attorney’s office has recovered millions in criminal proceeds and shut down multiple illegal businesses as part of illegal gambling civil forfeiture actions.
“In addition to being a contributor to violent crime, the addictive nature of illegal commercial gambling victimizes some our community’s most vulnerable residents,” said District Attorney David Cooke. “These cases take a tremendous amount of work and expertise. We’re excited to have the extra help we need to protect our community and hold criminal organizations accountable.”
