Traffic Engineering requests added to SeeClickFix

Macon-Bibb County, as part of its effort to better engage the public in improving neighborhoods, is again expanding the use of its mobile service request application, SeeClickFix. Now people can report issues and requests directly to Traffic Engineering such as: a study for the installation of a crosswalk; signs indicating the presence of deaf and blind children; timing of traffic signals; hidden driveway signs; and stop signs, speed signs, and traffic signal studies.

“SeeClickFix has been a great way to connect people with other Macon-Bibb departments, so we wanted to provide the same service with our Traffic Engineering Division,” says Traffic Engineer Nigel Floyd. “I want to thank SeeClickFix for helping us make the connection.”

“We want to continue adding services to SeeClickFix so people can more easily interact with us and correct the issues they see in their neighborhoods,” says Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert. “People really can really help identify where the signs are needed, the locations of hidden driveways that create a safety issue, and how the timing of lights affect people walking in there”

Requests can be made and issues reported via Macon-Bibb County’s website and/or a free mobile application. People without online or mobile capabilities can report issues by calling Customer Service at 478-751-7400. SeeClickFix should only be used to report non-emergency issues; if a situation is an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

“Working through SeeClickFix has allowed us to make sure requests are sent to the appropriate department and how well we are responding,” says Chris Floore, Assistant to the County Manager for Public Affairs. In December, 940 requests were opened using SeeClickFix, and of the ones that were resolved in the month, 84% were within 10 days.

SeeClickFix also provides a needed tool to identify areas of improvement or issues which need to be addressed. A high-priority issue for the public is the identification and removal of blight, Code Enforcement requests were added, and 64 requests were submitted in November and December.  SeeClickFix requests also helped quantify the need for trash cans in Macon-Bibb. Based on that information, the Solid Waste Department purchased more than 1,300 trash cans and began delivering them February 6 and 7.

Below is a list of just some of the issues people can report with SeeClickFix.

About SeeClickFixSeeClickFix

SeeClickFix is a place-based reporting platform which allows residents to document neighborhood concerns and improvements alike, ranging from litter to damaged sidewalks to missing garbage carts. Using this real-time, online reporting system can increase productivity, efficiency, and transparency for many city services and departments.

SeeClickFix is very user-friendly, utilizing drop down selection menus and simple clarifying questions. When submitting issues via mobile app, for example, residents can select from a list of issues and provide a description, including location and picture. Once the resident submits an issue, anyone ‘watching’ the area will receive an alert. Representatives in the departments can then acknowledge the service request, route it to the person, and update the request—and residents following the issue—once it’s been resolved.

About the Office of Public Affairs

Working together, these three functions are part of a two-way communication program designed to educate the community about improvement efforts by Macon-Bibb and partner organizations, and provide a way for people to provide feedback and have their questions answered and concerns addressed.
