The Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s Office will close the Farmers’ Market branch at 2055 Eisenhower Parkway at the close of business on Friday, December 19, 2014.  All services will be relocated to Office’s new location at 188 Third Street (corner of Walnut and Third Streets).

There will be a transition period as the office is moved from Monday, December 22, through Wednesday, December 24. During this time the Tax Office will be operational at 188 Third Street, but there may be some delay in services. The new Tax Commissioner’s Office will be fully operational on Monday, December 29. The offices previously located in the Bibb County Courthouse have already moved to 188 Third Street.

The new Office is designed to serve the taxpayers of Macon-Bibb County in the most efficient and expeditious manner possible. It consolidates the separate offices that were previously located at the Bibb County Courthouse and the Farmer’s Market on Eisenhower Parkway.

In order to provide people with an expedited and enjoyable experience at the new Office, it features a taxpayer service area that allows for a maximum of 16 Customer Service Representatives. In addition, there is drive-thru service available so people can avoid lines inside.

To make it easier for people to make payments, credit and debit cards are now accepted over the county, which is a significant improvement and one expressed as being needed by people visiting the former locations. (A convenience fee is charged on all credit and debit payments.)

Though they have instituted several significant improvements, there are plans to continue providing a better experience. In January, a new electronic customer service queuing system will be installed that will direct people to the Customer Service Representative that can best assist them. Also, ATM service will be installed in the near future, and they are currently exploring the possibility of adding self-serve payment kiosks.

The Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s Office handles motor vehicle registrations and related transactions. They also bill and collect for property taxes, mobile homes taxes, timber taxes, heavy duty equipment taxes, sanitation fees, street light fees, road paving assessments, alcohol excise taxes, bank gross receipts taxes, and hotel-motel occupancy taxes.
