The Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s Office is hosting a Wildlife Tag Day on Friday, February 19, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at 188 Third Street. (The event may go longer, depending on the weather.) This #tagwild event is family friendly, free, and open to the public.

“We want to make people aware of how they can support our wildlife and natural areas around the state by upgrading to a Wildlife Tag,” says Interim Tax Commissioner Wade McCord, who points out that funds from the $25 purchase of these tags go support Georgia Wildlife Conservation.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will have animals at the event, including a Bald Eagle, a Gopher Tortoise, and a Barred Owl, for children and the public to see. They will also be distributing free items such as key chains, buttons, coloring books, and more, and will be selling t-shirts with the tag designs in full color for only $8 each.

“We encourage everyone to come out to this #tagwild event to meet Georgia’s wildest residents firsthand and learn how you can show your support!” says Jenifer Wisniewski, DNR Marketing and Communications Manager.

Representatives will be available to answer any questions about how the purchasing a Wildlife Tag helps support conservation efforts around Georgia. Representatives of the Tax Commissioner’s Office will also be available to talk about the services provided by their office, and to discuss improvements to accessing those services with the new facility that opened at the end of 2014.

About the Tax Commissioner’s Office
The Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s Office handles motor vehicle registrations and related transactions. They also bill and collect for property taxes, mobile homes taxes, timber taxes, heavy duty equipment taxes, sanitation fees, street light fees, road paving assessments, alcohol excise taxes, bank gross receipts taxes, and hotel-motel occupancy taxes.

The Tax Commissioner’s Office moved into its new building at 188 Third Street in December 2014, and it’s designed to serve the taxpayers of Macon-Bibb County in the most efficient and expeditious manner possible. It consolidated the separate offices previously located at the Bibb County Courthouse and the Farmer’s Market on Eisenhower Parkway.

To make it easier for people to make payments, credit and debit cards are now accepted over the counter, which is a significant improvement and one expressed as being needed by people visiting the former locations.

In order to provide people with an expedited and enjoyable experience at the new Office, it features a taxpayer service area that allows for a maximum of 16 Customer Service Representatives. In addition, there is drive-thru service available so people can avoid lines inside. A new electronic customer service queuing system was installed that directs people to the Customer Service Representative that can best assist them. Also, ATM service will be installed in the near future, and they are currently exploring the possibility of adding self-serve payment kiosks.
