Macon – Representatives from the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Bibb County Juvenile Court, Bibb County Schools, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice and other government and community partners met Monday to make decisions about how to implement a School-Justice Partnership.

The partnership, modeled on successes experienced by Clayton County’s schools and juvenile court, will focus on addressing the root causes for why juvenile offenders break the law and offering diversion programs as an alternative to incarceration for low-level offenders.

During Monday’s meeting, the group decided that the partnership will be governed by a group of voting and advisory members. Several committees are set to draft sections of the agreement in the coming weeks that will be voted on at the group’s next meeting.

The goal is to have an agreement signed and implemented by the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.

“We’re excited to be one step closer to implementing this program that has resulted in extraordinary success in Clayton County, reducing crime and boosting graduation rates,” said Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke. “If we can reach today’s children and help put them on a path to success, we’ll make a significant impact on our community’s future.”
