Macon-Bibb County’s Public Works Department held its Spring donation drive during the month of March, this time to collect items for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia. With the success of its departmental drive in the Fall (when they collected 4,169 items for the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank), they challenged other departments to join them in a friendly competition.

Their efforts and outreach means 6,752 items, $50 in gift cards, $250 in cash and checks, and 636 postage stamps were donated to the Ronald McDonald House. Participating departments and offices included Solid Waste, Parks and Recreation, Government Center, Tax Commissioner’s Office, Parks and Beautification, Tax Assessor’s Office, Public Works, Engineering, Vehicle Maintenance, and Facilities Management. Public Works won the competition by collecting 3,653 items, with Parks and Beautification coming in second place with 1,145 items and Solid Waste in third place with 750 items.

“Even though we challenged the other departments to participate as part of a competition, the real winner in all of this are the people served by the Ronald McDonald House,” says Public Works Director Marvin Land. “And thanks to the generosity of the people working for Macon-Bibb County and our community, our Spring drive was a huge success!”

“At Ronald McDonald House Charities, we believe in strength in numbers,” says Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia President and CEO Bonnie Hopkins. “When everyone participates in even a small way, the impact is quite large.”
