The Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation Department celebrated Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) on July 28 by hosting a special event for the people that tend to our parks and provide the recreational activities. The Parks & Recreation and Parks & Beautification Departments had an afternoon at Amerson River Park where they could float the Ocmulgee River, play Cornhole and football, ride bikes, and take part in a Zumba class. Children were able to get their faces painted and play a variety of games.

“From providing us places to get fit and stay healthy to fostering new relationships and forging a connection with nature, our neighborhood parks and recreation facilities provide essential services and improve the quality of life,” says Parks and Recreation Director Reggie Moore. “We have adopted the mission of ‘Building healthy communities through people, parks and programs,’ and we constantly encourage healthy lifestyles through a variety of activities.”

“Recreation is anything that one enjoys to do in their leisure time. Whether it be physical activity, reading, or the arts, we encourage it all because they improve a community’s, mentally, physically, and emotionally,” says Recreation Programmer Dominique Lewis.
