Macon-Bibb County has launched a new website at www.splost.info as another way for people to learn about projects funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). Currently, the Commission regularly discusses and approves items related to projects, monthly financial statements are posted on the Macon-Bibb website, regular meetings are held with the SPLOST Advisory Committee, and local media frequently covers progress on the projects.

“One of our charges as the SPLOST Advisory Committee was to increase and improve communication with the public, both providing information to the public and giving feedback to the government based on what people expect,” says Committee Chair Jeffery Monroe. “This website provides us a single place where people can learn about the projects they approved, as well as to ask questions.”

Included on the new SPLOST website are an interactive map of the projects, monthly financial statements, press releases and news about the projects, action taken by the Macon-Bibb Commission, feature videos, and more. A dedicated email address (splost@maconbibb.us) has been created so people can ask questions of the SPLOST Advisory Committee and Macon-Bibb staff.

“We wanted to create a go-to source of information for all aspects of the SPLOST, and to provide a way for people to learn more,” says Macon-Bibb County Assistant to the County Manager for Public Affairs Chris Floore. “We’re making significant improvements in Macon-Bibb because people approved the funding for the projects, and they deserve to know and understand we’re doing what they asked.”

The launch of the new SPLOST site is the latest in a series of new websites geared towards providing the public more useful and easy-to-access information. It began with consolidation when a new Macon-Bibb County site, and issue-specific sites have been launched for MaconBibbTV, the Middle Georgia Regional Airport, Lake Tobesofkee, and Bowden Golf Course. New websites for Amerson River Park and the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department are currently in development.
