As part of Macon-Bibb County’s new garbage and recycling collection program, the Solid Waste Department has ordered new carts to make sure people can easily participate. In June and July, more than 1,100 garbage carts were delivered, and this week, crews will begin delivering new, 65-gallon recycling carts to more than 700 homes.
Since beginning the new recycling program in January 2016, the Department has delivered more than 5,100 of the new carts. More than 2,240 tons, or 4.48 million pounds, of recyclable material has been collected and kept out of a landfill.
“The interest in recycling continues to grow in Macon-Bibb County, and we are continuing to order more of the rolling carts to keep up with that demand,” says Solid Waste Department Director and President of the Georgia Recycling Coalition Kevin Barkley.
