Macon-Bibb launches new map for the mosquito spraying schedule

From mid-April through mid-October, Macon-Bibb County Public Works sprays for mosquitos to help reduce  the mosquito population and to lower the risk of people catching a virus it could be carrying. To help people know when the truck will drive through their neighborhood, Public Works worked with the IT Department to create an interactive map.

With the map, you can either click on a specific area or enter your address to learn when the next spraying will be, as well as when the most recent one happened. Occasionally, weather will lead to the cancellation of spraying, and the map will be updated to reflect those changes.

If you have questions about the mosquito spraying program, or do not wish the area in front of your house sprayed, contact the Public Works Department at 478-621-5888.

Using interactive maps is one of the strategies the IT Department is using to make useful information and data more readily available and easier to understand to the public. Recently, they launched a website of such maps called Macon Insights, and it was recognized with the Georgia GMIS Project of the Year Award and nomination for the GMIS International G2 Award.
