Macon-Bibb County will set the millage rate at a meeting on August 16, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in Commission Chambers at Government Center (700 Poplar Street). Pursuant to the requirements of O.C.G.A. 48-5-32, Macon-Bibb published in The Telegraph on August 1 the current year’s tax digest and levy, along with the history of the tax digest and levy for the past five years.

The tax digest, levy, and five-year history can be seen by clicking here.

Though the Tax Commissioner’s Office determined that there would need to be a slight millage increase in order to collect the same amount of revenue as last year, the Commission decided to hold the millage rate the same at 14.652.

The Fiscal Year 2017 Budget (July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017) was approved at a meeting on June 28, 2016. The approved budget includes:

  • A reduction to the general fund of more than five million dollars from the current year, meaning the 20% mandated reduction has been met;
  • A 1.5% Cost of Living Adjustment for all employees;
  • Increased contributions to the pension plans;
  • Maintained and even improved services; and
  • No increase to the millage rate.

The Mayor adopted a theme for this year’s budget of “Recalling Our Past…Macon Our Future” to reflect how much went into getting us to the point of consolidation and then to recognize the above-and-beyond effort of employees, the public, and the Commission to get us to this point successfully.
