Macon – Two men each were sentenced to seven years, five of them in prison, on Tuesday after they pleaded guilty to going to a local motel to meet underaged girls for sex in March 2015.
Chadwick Preston Cagle, 42, of Kathleen, and James Anthony Howard, 26, of Macon, each pleaded guilty to criminal attempt to commit child molestation and were sentenced in a Bibb County Superior Court hearing.
If the cases had gone to trial, Chief Assistant District Attorney Nancy Scott Malcor would have presented evidence showing Cagle and Howard responded to online advertisements offering sex with a 15-year-old girl and her mother, exchanging emails with who they thought was the girl’s mother. In reality, Cagle and Howard were emailing a police officer.
After agreeing on a meeting place and time, the men each went to a motel where they were arrested.
When Cagle arrived, he had condoms, alcohol and candy.
Speaking after the hearings, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said, “Child victims never know who will be on the other side of the door when a predator comes to meet them. I’m grateful it was the suspects who were surprised this time.”
