Memorial Park is undergoing major renovations (as outlined in this MaconBibbTV feature), and now, the parking lot will be increased in size! Commissioners voted to approve using $220,000 in District 6 blight bond funds toward the parking lot expansion project. More spaces means more people can come enjoy the newly updated center and all it will offer. You can see more about the forthcoming lot construction, here.
The expansion is in addition to the $2.5 million in upgrades currently underway at Memorial Park that is being funded by the voter-approved SPLOST. This phase of upgrades includes an expanded interior space that will provide greater visibility and easier movement among the different areas. There will be new bathrooms, meeting spaces, workout room, and computer area; renovations to the pool; and a new concession stand will be built at the baseball field. A new gymnasium floor and bleachers were already installed, and heating and air conditioning was added to the gymnasium.
